At three million square feet and approximately
1,500 showrooms, the California Market Center (formerly known as the California
Mart) is North Americas largest wholesale fashion, gift and home showcase
and trade center. This unrivaled capacity is only one of the impressive
features of the California Market Center's five building urban campus, whose spaces
are as flexible as they are generous. Events of any scope and size are
successfully planned and hosted here, from multi-level corporate conferences
to invitation-only debuts of exclusive designers, manufacturers, buyers, and home industry leaders, who come from all over
the world to meet, mix and do business at California Market Center.
The California Market Center's unique amenities include a 40,000-sqaure-foot-multi-media
theater and a rooftop heliport. More than any other downtown facility,
the California
Market Center offers adaptable floor plans and large blocks of contiguous
space for the most diverse tenant needs, including studio space and event
venues for the design and entertainment industries.
In the spring of 2000, Hertz Investment Group acquired this important
hub of the national and international fashion industry, located in the
heart of downtown Los Angeles. In August, 2001, Hertz Investment Group
commenced converting up to one million square feet of space from fashion
to gift and home showrooms. In January, 2003, it entered into a partnership
with dmg World Media, a subsidiary of Daily Mail & General Trust plc
(a FTSE 100 company), to develop further the gift and home sector of the
operation. dmg World Media is recognized as a leading producer of gift
and home consumer and trade exhibitions, producing more than 300 such
events around the world. Hertz Investment Group and dmg World Media
co-owned the California Market Center until it was sold at a substantial
profit in 2005.
